Counselling Specialisations

Person-Centred Therapy

As a person-centred counsellor, my focus is you.  I am committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment, where you can explore your thoughts and feelings.  You are the expert in you, but together we can begin to understand, without judgement and assumptions, what has brought you to this point in your life.

Therapeutic Specialisations

Through a long career covering over 30 years, I have developed an interest in many areas, but ultimately I want to hear how you have experienced what life has thrown at you.  I have worked therapeutically in the probation service, in schools and within the 3rd Sector in Community Counselling Services.  For over 20 years I set up and managed a large counselling service.  In 2024 I was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community.  My dissertation was on Working with Adults Sexually Abused as Children, and I have also explored the topics around Mother and Daughter Relationship, Shame, Ethics, LGBTQ+, Faith, Trauma and Anger.

Counselling Sessions

I hope in our sessions to create a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and emotions.  We will work collaboratively with the hope that you can gain insight, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life.  As is usual for a person centred counsellor, I am not there to give you advise or tell you what to do, rather I hope we can work together as we both explore what is troubling you.  Sessions last for up to 50 minutes and are usually weekly, especially at the beginning of our work together.  However, if you want sessions less frequently this can be discussed.

Clinical Supervision

I believe that supervision should be collegiate, and that both of us are working together in order that you can be the best therapist you can be.  I was a Designated Safeguarding Lead for over 25 years so have a wealth of experience in areas around safeguarding.  Also having been the clinical lead for a counselling service, have experience on a diverse range of issues that can arise with clients.  However, that does not mean I want supervisees who work with me to become clones, rather I want to provide a space for you to flourish and gain confidence in your work.

Continuous Professional Development

Over the years I have provided CPD to counsellors and other professionals, especially those who work with young people.  I have delivered CPD on the following topics:  Working with Adults Sexually Abused as Children - Anger - Shame - Mother and Daughter Relationships - Toxic Parents - Boundaries - Grief and Loss
